Head of Data Analytics

Power Curve is a small but growing company with ambitious targets. We carry out a wide range of activities within wind energy focussed around our three core business areas of Solutions, Consultancy, and Digital Services.

We deal with large amounts of wind turbine SCADA data, which we use in multiple ways, including to validate the performance of our aerodynamic upgrade kits and diagnose poorly-performing turbines.

We are looking for a full-time Head of Data Analytics to take responsibility for this growing area of our business. It is our ambition to have best-in-class SCADA analytics capabilities to support our customers to make the best possible decisions regarding their turbine assets.

Responsibilities

  • You will report to the Chief Technology Officer
  • You will take ownership of Power Curve’s SCADA data analytics tools including in-house developed codes to crunch large datasets comparing turbine performance
  • You will develop these tools, or create new ones to satisfy our ambition to have a best-in-class analytics capability
  • You will use advanced mathematical processes to drive down uncertainties
  • You will innovate within the data analytics field to propose new approaches to validating turbine performance e.g. using machine learning or AI techniques
  • You will contribute to the development of our other digital services including cloud-based turbine aerodynamic analysis codes
  • You will have the opportunity to grow and manage a team of data engineers to match the business requirements
  • You will have the opportunity to lead consultancy projects concerning wind turbine performance analysis

Qualifications and required criteria

  • MSc or PhD in Engineering, Mathematics, or other relevant technical field
  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience, preferably in the wind industry

Significant experience of:

  • Multiple-channel performance and climatic data
  • Coding (we typically use Python)
  • Extraction and wrangling of large data sets

Desirable criteria

Experience of:

  • High frequency and down-sampled data
  • Measurement techniques/technologies e.g. Lidar/anemometers etc.
  • SCADA hardware and data communication/storage techniques

Working knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Azure
  • Blade aerodynamic design principles

 

Competencies

  • You have technical fluency in English and experience writing technical reports for a wide variety of audiences
  • You are self-motivated and enjoy the freedom of responsibility to shape your role
  • You are a clear and confident presenter; the role will require frequent interaction with multiple stakeholders around the work
  • You are familiar with common project management processes
  • You cope well with a highly varied workload that changes regularly
  • You are comfortable working in international and cross-cultural teams

PowerCurve operates with a flat organisation to enable fast and effective decision making. You will be offered an attractive compensation package based on your qualifications.

You will be preferably spend at least 50% of your time at our office in Aalborg, Denmark; however, hybrid and remote working arrangements will be considered.
