Lead Aerodynamic R&D Engineer

Power Curve is a small but growing company with ambitious targets. We carry out a wide range of activities within wind energy focussed around our three core business areas of Solutions, Consultancy, and Digital Services.

You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of blade aerodynamics projects ranging from blue-sky technology development to consulting for major OEMs. You will work across the value chain from first product sketches through to tooling design and field testing.

We are looking for a full-time Lead Aerodynamic R&D Engineer to expand our R&D team and contribute to a rapidly growing product and service portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • You will report to the Chief Technology Officer
  • You will lead consultancy projects such as blade aerodynamic design reviews and CFD studies
  • You will lead aerodynamic upgrade kit design workflows from first data gathering to final kit specification
  • You will heavily contribute to the development of our in-house developed aerodynamic analysis tools including standalone GUI-based software and cloud-based highly scalable solutions
  • You will innovate and be expected to advance new product and service concepts
  • You will contribute to applications for grant-funded innovation projects

Qualifications and required criteria

  • MSc or PhD in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering or similar
  • At least 5-7 years’ wind industry experience

Significant experience of:

  • Blade and preferably aerofoil design
  • Blade Element Momentum and preferably aeroelastic models
  • Aerodynamic product development and testing
  • CFD simulation, preferably using StarCCM+

 

Desirable criteria

Experience of:

  • Coding in Python

Working knowledge of:

  • Blade aeroelastic analysis
  • Writing patents and intellectual property analysis
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Blade structural design principles
  • Finite element analysis

Competencies

  • You have technical fluency in English and experience writing technical reports for a wide variety of audiences
  • You are self-motivated and enjoy the freedom of responsibility to shape your role
  • You are a clear and confident presenter; the role will require frequent interaction with the senior engineers working for our customers
  • You are familiar with common project management processes
  • You cope well with a highly varied workload that changes regularly
  • You are comfortable working in international and cross-cultural teams

You will be preferably spend at least 50% of your time at our office in Aalborg, Denmark; however, hybrid and remote working arrangements will be considered.
